The bottom bracket (where serial numbers are typically located) is circled.Ī serial number on the underside of a bottom bracket.Īnother serial number beneath the bottom bracket, aligned parallel to the frame. Here are some examples of where and what to look for: The last time I talked this much about a Schwinn (with exception to a RRS), was years ago when I still lived in SoCal, and called on a ad in the SD CL about a sweet ENF f/f with I think a WW2 aircraft theme that you were selling. Most bicycles have their serial number engraved beneath their bottom bracket, but sometimes serial numbers are found in other places. Yes I’ll be stripping it to bare aluminum, checking for original color before of course. It’s been a while Matty, as those dudes in the turbans say “A thousand thank you’s“ for the info. You'd have to get under that spay bomb to find the original color, but as it's a metallic blue there a good chance the last owner touched up the blue anno looking paint they came with using a similar color. Typically the level 1 and 2 bikes were the 21.25" PRO XL sizing and the level 3 frames were a 20.5" PRO sizing, but I don't know for certain if there was a PS3 in '97 or if that hit in '98. The TT length will narrow down which frame it was. Those first Pro Stocks had that unique alpha-numeric format early on (they skip the letter I making what would normally be the 13th letter, M, the 12th month). M6 is December 1996 production, 1997 model.

No matter what the SN you have shown matches to a 1980 build but for some reason is on the BB. The head badge 4 digit number should tell you what. Otherwise Schwinn frames had a SN on the frames that was placed on the frames at the time the frame was built in 1980 and then completed in 1987. The frame looks like the 1987 Predator but could those frames have a different format SN and I am not certain where it should be located. On a closer inspection of the image of the complete frame I think the SN photo may not be the one that is on that frame. I have only found one 1987 Predator but the number started G7xxxx indicating it was a Giant manufacture. I agree it looks like the 1987 Predator but is the SN quoted and photographed correct for 1987 frame. The Schwinn BMX serial number GR733640 on this forum was first expressed that it was a genuine Chicago number (July 1980) then said to be a 1987 because the first number was a 7 and it looked like a 1987 Predator, but no explanation is made for the GR letters. It was sold as a frame only in the early 80`s. I have a Schwinn frame that has a SN on the BB as yours and my frame is said to have come out of the BMX cycle supply. I have seen your serial number image for GR733640 that you posted showing it to be on the BB. The Schwinn are normally on the lower LHS of the head bracket and this SN indicates when the frame was made. I have been searching for Schwinn BMX serial numbers from the late 1970`s to 1983 that are located on the BB.
